The Windows 8 operating system, being the first operating system designed exclusively for touch screen computers had created quite a wave upon its launch. A large number of people are happy users of this operating system. The operating system is very friendly with tablets and touch screens unlike its previous versions and at the same time, it doesn’t cause any problems whilst using PCs or laptops that aren’t touch screen.
But soon Windows 8 will become a thing of the past as Microsoft has announced the launch of windows 8.1 on the 18th of October. Though the full retail version of the operating system will be released on 18th of October, it will be available on 17th October for existing Windows 8 users. Thus, existing users of the windows operating system can have this privilege a day earlier.
A preview version of 8.1 was released previously at the Windows developer conference. The preview version was updated several times to eliminate all the bugs and to test all the new features that Microsoft has to offer in Windows 8.1. Those wanting to buy a Windows 8 PC don’t have to wait until October for the upgraded operating system as users can upgrade their existing Windows 8 PC to 8.1.
The very first version of 8.1 will be launched in New Zealand at the stroke of midnight. This update will be easily available to existing Windows 8 users via the windows store. Thus, upgrading from 8 to 8.1 is going to be a cakewalk. The new version of the operating system has IE 11 (Internet Explorer 11), inbuilt applications and also a much powerful search functionality powered by Bing. Though, a version of 8.1 had formerly leaked over the internet, Microsoft has managed to hold its head high by making a timely announcement of the launch.
Windows 8.1 comes after a year of its predecessor Windows 8 and hence, the techies and the gizmos have a lot of expectations out of this one. Windows 8.1 will also come with a tutorial which was missing in the predecessor. A large number of people had problems with the swipe interface of Windows 8, given the usage of start button that has predominated windows since the last few years. Windows 8.1 and 8 as well, have definitely helped Microsoft keep up with the trends of tablets and smart phones over PCs.
It is to be seen how the new version of Windows performs among the users and what kind of response it receives. Are you a user of preview version of Windows 8.1? Do share your experience in the comments.
