I’m a big fan of Apps. I think they perform a variety of useful functions on a variety of platforms. From gaming to accounting, they permeate every facet of our society it seems. And like the proverbial freight train, app saturation shows no signs of slowing down. Almost the entire world’s population (90% and counting) utilise mobile communications in some format.
Over the next few years, apps will be worth over £40 billion pounds, which is probably why Apps World are gearing themselves towards ensuring we understand the pitfalls and possibilities that this market holds. It seems they will be holding an event at Earl’s Court 2 in London over October 2-3rd. Their aim? To enlighten, educate and involve people in the workings of Applications and the app marketplace.
This will include guest speakers from some of the top brands around (Facebook, Samsung, Google), along with workshops covering everything from the latest HTML5 and CSS3 apps to understanding how Cloud works and the implications of Cloud-based services.
In a somewhat unique move, considering the range and flexibility of apps, the event will also be holding a dedicated workshop for Android. Now, this is what interests me as I am an avid Android advocate (AAA? Can we turn this into a used acronym?) Anyway, the workshop promises to focus on some interesting topics which include:
- Taking a hard look at the fundamentals of the Android OS. What was missing? What went right and what went wrong and how Android can improve in the days ahead.
- The customisation and extension of the Android platform, including framework and services.
- Presentations of the very latest apps available, along with looking at the journey from designing an app to actual implementation on the market.
- Tablet, smartphone and laptop devices, and the extent of opportunities presented for multiple devices and running Android OS through them.
Of course, there’s a lot more during the event but this gives you a brief idea of the depth and range that Apps World are going into when it comes to application software. Also, if you’re in North America in Feburary, then the event is also being held in San Francisco 5-6th Feburary at the Concourse Exhibition Center.
