Twitter is redesigning its services to increase the number of mainstream users. Twitter’s new face will soon be unveiled as Twitter is planning to show off its new services after Apple launches the new iOS 7 software update. This will be Twitter’s third major user interface redesign in its seven year long business.
The four tabs placed at the bottom of the application’s screen will be gone and there will be streams focussing on contents instead and you just need to swipe through them. The main stream that the current users use will be there along with streams that would let you interact and converse with other users. Another new addition will be a stream dedicated to the shared photos on Twitter, something similar to Facebook. The visual experience will be better as the new design enhances the multimedia quality. There would not be any requirement to click on a particular tweet to see photos or videos as they will appear automatically in the steam. We all are familiar with a very ‘text-full’ Twitter that would be replaced by a theme that is definitely prettier and visually-rich. But apart from these changes the biggest change that Twitter is planning to go through is to connect to the television so that it can reach to millions of people across the globe. Twitter is experimenting with a new ‘Trending TV Show’ stream. It is believed that Twitter is planning to dedicate a stream entirely to television which is on an experimental stage.
Twitter’s main aim as in experimenting with this is to help the first time users who have downloaded this application by seeing the ‘#’ or ‘@’ signs on advertisement on TV.
There are people who take days or weeks and even months to know what is so happening about Twitter. With all these new changes, these people can just get into a conversation relating to their favorite soaps on Twitter, at the same time the show is being aired.
As shown in this screenshot, this will enhance the number of people tweeting while they catch their favorite TV show.
When a show is getting aired, there will be a banner that will include various tweets about the show. These new TV banners appear only on the iOS application of Twitter and not on its website. These banners even stay visible as you scroll down your timeline.
The basic idea to overhaul the design is for combating the increasing number of users and solving the retention problems that have been faced by the users for the past few years. More than billion people have registered and created accounts on the Twitter but only ¼ of that number remain as active customers unlike Facebook which has billions of active users.
Twitter is not sharing any kinds of information with the media but will release a compatibility update soon after Apple launches iOS 7 with the advanced version coming a little later.
