Don’t want to miss your favorite drama on TV? Thanks to the invention of smart phones and high technology, you can now watch live TV programs on your mobile phone. What you need are the right apps and the right equipment. If you have an Android phone and you want to watch your favorite TV program on the comfort of your couch, then you might want to consider having the following apps:
- Dish Network
- U-Verse Live and AT&T Live TV
- Sling Media.
Dish Network
This is the only app in town if you want live streaming from your cable provider or satellite company. Dish Network offers access to TV, DVR and on demand programs with no extra charges per month. Before downloading this app, you must have a ViPtm922 Slingloaded DVR, or a ViP 722k DVR or 722 with Sling Adapter. Without this prerequisite, the app won’t work.
U-Verse Live and AT&T Live TV
This is another app you can download if you want to watch live TV programs on your Android phone. The app offers a 7-day free trial. If you subscribe, the service costs $9.99 per month. The app allows access to channels such as ABC, Fox, MSNBC, NBC, Disney, Comedy Central and ESPN.
Before subscribing to this app, make sure your phone model is compatible with the service. Phones such as HTC Status, HTC Aria, HTC Inspire LG Phoenix, Samsung Infuse, LG Thrive, Motorola Atrix, Bravo, Flipout and Flipside and future models of AT&T Android phones are compatible with the app and the service. The app may not work with tablets.
It is important to note that you do not need a U-Verse home service in order to avail yourself of this app. Live streaming of shows depends on the show, subscription and other factors in the U-Verse app.
Sling Media
Sling Media (SlingPlayer Solo and SlingPlayer HD) is a solution if your cable company has yet to offer an app that would enable you to watch live TV shows on your Android phone. Sling Media allows you to watch live TV programs by working with an existing cable box or DVR. This app may not work for Android tablets though some users find that it is okay with the Android tablets with larger displays.
The app price is $29.99; and the price of the Slingbox Solo or the Slingbox Pro-HDbetween $150 to $300.
Go Non-Streaming
If live streaming is not your thing, you always have the option of going for non-streaming. There are several apps you can download for non-streaming TV viewing. It may not be live TV, but it can still be helpful in updating you with the latest news and episodes. If you just want a particular channel you can also avail yourself of premium and specialty apps.
These apps enable you to watch a particular channel, whether that is from a cable provider or a Sat TV Direct. Premium and specialty apps give you the power to choose a particular channel to subscribe to.
