Google Chromecast is used to send videos from Netflix, YouTube, Google Play and Hulu to your TV. It can be used as a medium to send videos to your TV from your computer hard drive. It is a cross-platform wireless streaming system and takes only a few minutes to set up.
Features
Many versatile ways and devices like Apple TV, Boxee Box, Google TV, etc are made available to turn your TV into a smart TV. However, none of these devices are as good as Chromecast in terms of ease of use and functionality.
- It lets you stream videos from the internet to your home theater/TV. Your TV must have a USB slot to attach Chromecast to it.
- It is easy to setup and use, fast in functioning and cheap.
- It is small and very effective, though not a perfect product by Google, an updated version would be appreciated.
- You cannot play games on your TV neither does it support Amazon Instant videos. It supports the videos streaming from the internet, from Netflix, YouTube, Hulu and Google Play for the time being.
How it works
Once you’ve bought Chromecast, take the device out of the box and fix it to the HDMI port present in your TV. The device comes with an adaptor and a USB cable.
You will need to adjust your TV settings, making the necessary changes.
- Visit the URL link to download set up for your device to work on that TV and install it. Once you’ve done the setup you’re good to go.
- Chromecast creates a wireless connection between your TV and your PC/Laptop.
- Another option to complete the set up process is by downloading an app to your Android device.
- From the Chromecast browser you will need to give your Chromecast a specific name. For example: living room, bedroom, etc.
- The device receives commands from your PC when you send videos for streaming to your TV.
- The videos are streamed directly from the internet.
- Once the video has finished loading and you can watch it, you can disconnect from the app and use the internet for other purposes.
- The YouTube and Netflix apps allow you to play and pause the videos on the TV. The YouTube app might face difficulty receiving commands from your on the phone while the video is playing. The Netflix app shows no difficulty in this case. Therefore it is better you use Netflix to watch your videos on the TV.
Google has given the device a beta label, as customers have reported stutters while the videos are played on the TV. Google says it is soon to bring out updated and flawless versions of Chormecast in the near future. Chromecast is cheaper in comparison to its competitors. It is also better, therefore, should replace your old device without being a pain to your wallet.
