Sometimes even the most innovative minds fail to conjure up ideas that would boost their business and make them market leader. Research and development are core elements of Apple’s organizational culture – no other mobile company has been this successful when it comes to understanding the purchasing habits and demands of their customers. They have a history of manufacturing products, which is creates a statement for the user. However, it appears lately the giant technological company had to resort to remodeling and modification of its existing products. Following the launch of its most anticipated device, iPhone 5 and new version of its software, iOS 6; Apple is about to launch a mini version of its iPad; to be called iPad Mini. This mini version is similar to that of the iPod Mini, with same features but reduced size.
Some interesting Features
It is believed that the iPad Mini will be unveiled by the end of this month and will be available for sale in the stores by second week of November. Let’s have a look at what the users will be missing out with the launch of iPad Mini.
1. The current iPad has a large screen display, measuring 9.7 inches. Since the iPad Mini will be the smaller version, it is rumoured that the screen size will reduce to 7.85 inches. Even though this may not be a very massive change in terms of the size, but it makes quite a visible difference.
2. Apple has been very particular about the outlook of its gadgets. It has decided to maintain the aluminum cover in the mini version; also there won’t be much of a change with the thin bezel styling either.
3. The current iPad has the Retina display technology, but may not be made part of the package for the iPad Mini.
4. Since the size of the iPad has been decreased, there is a possibility that the iPad Mini will be fitted with a nano SIM slot.
5. Also Apple’s signature ‘Lightning’ port will most certainly feature on iPad Mini, along with its new operating system, iOS 6.
Changing Tides
This is not the first time Apple has thought about launching mini version of its products. The first time this strategy was unveiled in front of former CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs; who rejected it out rightly and decided to go with the original size of the iPad and iPod – leading to the release of iPad 2 and the regular sized iPad series. It was only after the death of Jobs and change of management that the company went ahead with its previous idea of launching mini versions of their devices.

The basic reason behind this change is the growing competition in market – in the mini version of the tablet, Android is undoubtedly the leader, which forced Apple to reconsider their stance on the small sized tablet. The iPad Mini is expected to be available for $250 to $300, which is unusual for an Apple device, keeping in view its image and craftsmanship. The compromise in price may prove to be beneficial in long run; but with all the changes made to the mini version of its products; Apple should not compromise on security issues and keep its image of a secured platform. This could only be achieved if their software is kept secured from threat of iPhone spyware and other malware.
